In today’s tough markets many industrial goods are being outsourced to cheaper Asain competitors. This probably isn’t news to anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock, but the implications of it are still rippling through the older, more established manufacturing economies. One question still lingering is how much of the manufacturing base of the United States will be lost before the high water mark is hit. Another question is whether the jobs and business lost will ever return. Yet some companies like manufacturers of carbide dies and swaging dies will still be required nationally.

There was a time when the American was the new guy on the block taking over manufacturing from European countries. Making comparisons between the present day and manufacturing one hundred years ago is like comparing apples computers to oranges, but it does show that the United States can go one of two ways. The United States can survive as a major player in manufacturing or be marginalized, producing only specialty items. Germany for example has done very well, while other manufacturing countries have fared much, much worse.

No matter how much Manufacturing is outsourced to foreign countries some manufacturing will remain in the US. There will always be a need for tool and die shops. Many of these tool and die shops are what would be called “mom and pop” operations. They do tooling work that is necessary to keep all the machines of society operating on an ad hock bases. What will become of tool and die manufactures that make parts for the general markets though? The answer to this question remains to be seen but some trends are emerging. The massive populations and low wages of India and China have already swamped many of these businesses, driving them out of the market and forcing them to close their doors. Since the start of the recession in 2008 many companies have become casualties of the slowdown throughout manufacturing and the cheaper foreign companies have taken their place. This has revealed one fact of manufacturing that people knowledgeable about industry have always know, cheaper doesn’t mean that it will cost less.
Cheaper foreign manufactured goods tend to be of a lower quality and this incurs many hidden costs to those that use them. The cost of replacing parts that wear out faster, the cost of idle machines and workers as foreign dies and tooling are replaced and hassle associated with defective parts all have real and very significant costs in the long run. The manufactures in the United States that survive the recession may actually find themselves in a strong place to compete as companies realize that the foreign products simply don’t measure up.

In order to receive the best quality of work possible many American companies have discovered that keeping their tool and die and other industrial needs in the American is the wisest choice. It allows them to work more closely with the company, reduces shipping times and perhaps most importantly saves money in the long run. An added benefit that shouldn’t be overlooked is that when American companies buy US goods it supports the American recovery and keeps desperately needed jobs within its borders.

The ability to do welding in many places can be an interesting way to make a living. Mobile welding jobs cater to those welders who like to move around. What about the amount of money that can be made from doing these types of welding jobs? We are going to look at whether or not it is financially viable to do mobile welding jobs, but first we must answer what are these jobs.

What Are Mobile Welding Jobs?
Called rig welding jobs or portable welding jobs in some circles. Mobile welding jobs usually entail having a welder with a vehicle, which has equipment mounted to perform welds wherever he/she goes. Most times, this vehicle is a truck, and it can have a trailer outfitted with the welding equipment as well. These welders do structural welding or pipe welders jobs for their clientele.

Capital
All businesses require a monetary investment and this mobile one is no different. That, and also time and effort will be needed to start your business and to make sure it stays running. An example of this could be buying a truck and making sure it is properly maintained. Make sure you are getting the best for your investment.

The Bottom Line
When it comes to the financial viability of mobile welding jobs, many factors come into play. For example, the reliability of your chosen vehicle and the welding equipment. You don’t want any sub-standard welding equipment on your truck because you will have to spend money sooner rather than later, to replace it when it malfunctions. Despite having the truck, the welding equipment and skills, finding those who require your mobile welding services in your area could be a challenge at some point. This business may require you to drive to different towns or cities to do work from time to time.

How best you spread the word about your services is one of the most overlooked, but most pivotal factors that determine whether or not your business will succeed. When done right, combined with high quality customer service, you most definitely have what it takes to be successful financially as a mobile welder.

For months the Manufacturing sector has been leading the recovery in the US. Economists pointed to data reflecting growth in manufacturing as a sign that the US economy was on the rebound. However, the recovery in the industrial sector has since stumbled. Growth and job creation, once robust in the sector, dwindled and stagnated in May.

Some areas of manufacturing are still experiencing growth however. For example mining and the manufacturing of tungsten extrusion dies and tungsten carbide tooling remain strong. However, other areas, like the auto industry have experienced setbacks due to the disaster in Japan. Japanese suppliers have been resilient, however power disruptions in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami have impacted their ability to supply needed parts to the Detroit auto makers. Industries related to housing have had little luck as well, in facts housing prices have proven that they have not bottomed out in recent months and have sagged once again. Low prices on existing homes means that construction of new homes will remain anemic in the foreseeable future. Additional factors are worrying manufacturing executives, at the top of their minds is the rising costs of energy, including fuel prices, and soaring costs of raw materials.

The US manufacturing industry is doing better than it has done decades, owners and manufacturing executives remain skeptical, according to a survey released Wednesday by business consultant Grant Thornton LLP. Grant Thornton LLP most recent Business Optimism Index found only 40 percent of respondents surveyed in May saying the U.S. economy will improve in the next six months. The Business Optimism report is generated quarterly and it reflects a 20 percent drop in confidence since February. The survey also found that 16 percent of the owners and manufacturing executives surveyed said they are planning on cutting their work force, up from 6 percent in February.

What this means is that companies will be taking a wait and watch approach over the next 6 months. Executives will be keeping an eye out for any wasteful spending or even any spending that can be put off. Cost cutting initiatives will be launched that can impact the purchasing of new equipment, further weakening the manufacturing sector. As these executives take a hard look at their books anything that can be considered discretionary spending may be cut. Most worrying is that they won’t be hiring new employees and will not be making any large investments, expanding or taking on new large new projects with confidence levels so low.

So what does all of this mean for the American recovery? That’s the worse part about it all. The industrial sector has been a bright spot in a generally gloomy economy. There are some up sides though. Despite all of the bad reports, dire projections and the pessimistic views of the manufacturing executives the industrial sector isn’t doing that badly. Companies have more money in the bank and are generally healthier then they have been in the last 20 years.

On top of that some possible relief may be on the way for US manufacturers. President Obama has made plans to find more jobs for Americans. His ideas include training workers for jobs that are tough to fill, such as advanced manufacturing, and streamlining the permit process in hopes of kick-starting infrastructure and construction projects. There is only so much a president can do for an ailing job market though and honestly these programs aren’t likely to excite industrial business owners and management, a group not known for leaning towards the Democratic Party.

The fact is that manufacturing might not be a great thing for Americans to hang their hats on right now, but there aren’t really any great options out there when it comes to finding employment for the 9.7 percent of unemployed workers out there. Hopefully in the end the recent setbacks prove to be nothing more than another bump on the road to a fully recovered US manufacturing industry. One can hope right?

Industry in the US has been on the decline for decades. It seemed to everyone that the US would not be able to compete globally in these markets|industries do to the lower wages of foreign works and lack of regulations in third world countries. However, despite this the US manufacturing sector has risen for the previous ten straight months. Once again optimism is beginning to appear in the once great powerhouse of manufacturing; however it is unlikely that we will ever see the levels attained at our height.

Still, US manufacturing is experiencing unexpected growth. Closed down factories are reopening and jobs are being created. The devastated economies of manufacturing dependent states have grown unexpectedly. The State of Michigan for example has the exciting problem of what to do with 500 million dollars in taxes that they never expected to receive. The reason is the current upsurge in manufacturing. In markets where the US has been traditionally strong, such as aviation, we have continued to grow while in other areas like the auto industry there has been a marked resurgence. General Motors has once again become the world?s top automaker and all three of the ?Big Three? are posting profit levels that they couldn?t dream about a year ago.

Still America isn?t producing a lot of the smaller, less technological items that we once did. For example nails and screws haven?t been produced in the US for some time and there is little hope in regaining these markets. However, even in these areas the US has found a niche. Items like extrusion dies that are required for making nails and screws take a skilled work to create them and the typical US carbide die maker have been able to rebuff their foreign competition. The reason seems to be that companies using these dies don?t want to risk going with the cheapest suppliers do to the fact that if they have to send an deficient carbide die back to the manufacturer that means production will come to a grinding halt. Apparently managers don?t want to explain why their company is losing millions of dollars a day because they are waiting for a $75 dollar part to the company?s owners.

So why is the US manufacturing sector making a comeback? In short, we are becoming more competitive. US manufacturing has been on a downward slide for forty years, and with it the wages paid to our works has decreased. While the owners of US firms have been doing everything possible to trim wages and cut costs the average wage of Chinese works has gone up at an average of 17% per year. It will be a very long time if ever that Chinese and US workers receive the same wages but it?s a step in the right direction. Coupled with the better education of US workers (yes, we still do have that!) America is finding itself on much more equal footing. The fact of the matter is that if you take an average worker from the Peoples Republic of China and one from the good old US of A, the American worker is more skilled on Average. Another advantage is fuel costs. US industries tend to be closer to the major consumer markets and have more reliable access to power.

The Earthquake in Japan has been a mixed blessing. While US auto production has surged pass Japanese we are finding ourselves hampered by lack of Japanese parts we use in our own cars. It still remains to be seen if the disaster will be a net gain or loss for domestic auto makers. Similar stories are playing out in the electronics, chip manufacturing and other industries. In fact, this month has been the first month without growth in the US manufacturing sector and the reason cited is supply chain problems stemming from the disaster in Japan.

So, US manufacturing is rebounding, but the fact of the matter is that it has a very long way to go if we ever want to reach our former heights of productivity. The fact of the matter is that growth is slow and it will be about ten years before we even hit the levels attained before the economic crash. Of course, the good news is that we are finally on that path and experiencing widespread, if slow paced, growth.

We’re facing the net epoch. The majority of careers appear to involve pc and the world wide web skills. However, it is possible to jobs that involve Do it yourself experience. Technicians, engineers, carpenters constantly have business to do. In the event you possess particular DIY skills and desire to begin a small enterprise consider investing in a machine center. The following are a couple of advantages of doing work by using CNC vertical milling machine.

? May very well not believe it however, you will surely discover job. There are lots of managers, sales people and finance specialist in the job market. These are jobless now. Nevertheless, folks who can work hard which enable it to take a step that other can’t always have job. Therefore, in the event you check out a small company and start advertising campaign, you may invariably obtain orders placed from other small business owners and even commercial enterprises. It is simple to identify a financial consultant or the supervisor. How many those who have a very good milling machine are available in your area? You will face absolutely no or even small level of competition.

? Should you start up a small company you will want a milling machine. It is far better to order a second hand one if you want to lower your expenses. After all, you’ll find a few factors to be considered. Old equipment may require financial investments. Thus, you should ensure that this milling machine looking to order is in fact in a perfect condition. If you’re not a pro in this area, if not look for aid of certified worksmen. Make sure that all parts tend to be fully functional. It will be also excellent to get a used vertical milling machine with a collection of substitution parts (spindle or axis). In the event you have previously worked with vertical milling machines make sure you recognize how to work with the a new one which have LCD display screens as well as computer systems. Having the capacity to chip the CNC vertical milling machine can be as essential as running the machine.

? Submit an application for a bank loan when purchasing a used machine center. This can be an excellent investment in your corporation. Thus, it is possible to begin without investing a pile of cash. You will be able to pay back the borrowed funds whenever you get your own first assignments.

? Make a price comparison when looking for previously owned milling machines. Occasionally, people sell vertical milling machines at very low prices (as an example, whenever they require money to buy much better equipment). Therefore, here is your chance to get a better price. There are plenty of web deals and user discussion forums where individuals sell second hand items. Naturally, it’s more difficult to discover a previously owned milling machine than, for instance, a digicam, however it is nonetheless possible.

To conclude, it needs mentioning that obtaining a cnc vertical milling machine is a wonderful financial commitment for anyone having experience with solid materials processing.

The immense heat of summer is at its height in the southern hemisphere of our planet, and up here on the north side it is also not far away. One concern that unites all of us living in hot areas is the problem of how to relieve the agonizing heat during the hot seasons, whenever it may be. Now days most people have air conditioners installed in their homes, as well as in their offices, public transportation or official buildings, making it possible to create a comfortable haven, safely protected from the heat. However, for many people working in factories, in warehouses or outside, there is often no protection against the heat during the work day. Many factory owners think it is too high cost to install a central air conditioning system, and indeed, the electrical charge for cooling down an entire factory or warehouse facility would quite high. But still one cannot but help to think that there must be something that can ease the workers hardship in such locations.

Fortunately, lately there have appeared some pretty amazing options for these kinds of situations. The most interesting of which is the so called spot cooler, which basically is a powerful portable air conditioner, designed for industrial use. Unlike the central or split system air conditioners, the purpose of the spot cooler is not to cool down the whole facility where people are working, but rather just the specific work stations themselves. Imagine a large factory with a largely automated assembly line and just a few work stations where people actually do work. During the hot seasons the midday temperature often reaches 45? (113

Hydraulic machinery are machines and tools that use fluid power to do the work. Almost all kinds of heavy equipment is a common example. With this type of equipment, hydraulic oil is pumped to a high pressure then transferred through the machine to various actuators.

The hydraulic pumps get driven by electric motors or engines. The pressurized fluid is controlled by an operator with control valves and then distributed through the tubes and pipes.

The rising popularity of hydraulic machinery is because of the large amount of power transferred through the small tubes and flexible hoses. High power density and a wide variety of actuators can then harness that power.

Hydraulic energy

Theory behind hydraulic equipment is based upon fluid pressure.
1. A force exerted on a small area make a larger force by acting on a larger area by hydrostatic pressure.
2. A great deal of energy can be transported by the small stream of highly pressurized fluid.

Pumps

A hydraulic pump supplies fluid to the components of the system. Pressure in the system will develop a response to the load. Pumps have a power density of about ten times larger than electric motor. The pumps are driven by a electric motor or engine, which is connected via gears, belts, or a flexible elastomeric coupling to decrease the heavy vibration.

The most common types of hydraulic pumps for hydraulic machinery applications include:
1. Gear pump - gear pump is cheap, durable, and easy. This is less effective, simply due to its constant displacement and is appropriate to use for pressures that are below 3,000 psi.
2. Vane Pump - these pumps are cheap, simple, and are reliable. They are good pumps for higher flow low pressure output.

Hoses and pipes

A hydraulic hose is graded by pressure, temperature, and the compatibility of fluid. A rubber interior is surrounded by several layers of woven wire and rubber. The exterior of the tubing is designed to
resist abrasion.

The bend radius of the hydraulic hoses are very carefully designed into the machine, since a hose failure can be deadly, and violating the minimum bend radius of the tube can also lead to failure.

A hydraulic line is thick enough to include threads that have been cut into it for connections. It is rarely used for high pressure, that usually have pipes or hoses. The pipe itself lends to welding, and can also be used to fabricate manifolds etc.

Hydraulic pipe on the other hand is preferable to hoses whenever possible, because they have more durability. Tubes are also preferred over pipes, as they weigh much less. Hydraulic tubes will usually have flared ends and special nuts to join to connections. They can also be steel welded and to have floating nuts and face seal fittings on the ends.

Both tubes and pipes for hydraulic applications usually have not been covered or painted, as temperatures and oil remove most moisture which in turn reduces the risk of rust.

Fittings

1.The fittings for hydraulic machinery serve a number of purposes:
2.The adapt different standards, such as the O-ring boss to JIC or pipe threads to face seal.
3.Allows the correct orientation of components, such as a 45 degree, 90 degrees, right or even swivel fittings will be chosen because it is the most suited. They’re designed to be placed in the right orientation and then tightened to required.
4.To incorporate bulkhead hardware.
5.A quick disconnect fitting can be adapted to machinery without needing to change hoses or valves.

When building windmills, people think about how to increase their efficiency. In order to do that, they examine the mechanism. The most significant components of a windmill are, obviously, windmill blades.

The first thing to think about when talking about windmill blades is their number. The higher number of blades a windmill has, the harder will be for it to work. The old ones used to have four very heavy blades. Most of them were use in grain grinding. Nowadays, the most modern windmills have 2 or 3 blades.

The length is critical too. If a blade is longer, it covers a larger surface when it rotates, so they can catch more wind with every rotation. This may contribute to extra torque. To protect the windmill blades we mustn’t forget about their surface. If we provide them with efficient maintenance, they’ll last longer and will also be more efficient.

Moreover, the shape of windmill blades influences their rotation. There are several different shapes of windmill blades: the flat, rectangular types, the wing shaped ones and the ones with both edges tapered to a slim line or both edges rounded like the ones of an airplane wing. In the case of the horizontal axis windmills, the wing shape has proven to be by far the most efficient one. The vertical axis windmills works very well with all the shapes of the windmill’s blades, but the greatest performance is given by the flat types and the ones with both edges rounded.

About the material with which the windmill blades are constructed from, if we think about the old ones, they were usually constructed from wood. Although those windmill blades are made of wood, their structure changed over time. They are much lighter now so they could spin quicker. A regular material that brings a high performance due to its sharp edges and its light weight is carbon fiber. Another material that’s light, but also cheap is PVC. It’s a synthetic material sometimes used for windmill blades. New materials are always being tested, in the hopes of finding a cheaper, more efficient solution.

Windmill blades are continuously developing, even though they appeared a very long time ago. At their beginnings they were somehow inefficient, but people learned to improve them and to make the windmills a desirable source of energy. Many more shapes and materials have and will be for windmill blades and people start using increasingly more this alternative source of energy that will not just save our money, but also our environment.

The U.K print market is wide and varied with many different kinds of print media in operation. The largest sector is that of offset lithographic print which is commonly used in the production of items such as brochures and leaflets. This process is most suited to paper and thin card applications.
More recently there has been a very quick expansion in the digital market. Typically of an embryonic process the technology has evolved at a phenomenal rate with new machinery coming out on a frequent basis. As the machinery evolves, becomes cheaper and the quality rises so does the impact of the digital sector in the overall market.

However there is one process which has continued to retain its unique niche and that is screen print. The U.K. silk screen printing industry has declined to some extent over the last twenty years due to the impact of the previously mentioned digital process. Digital printing does not have the front end set up elements involved in screen printing and therefore is ideally suited to lower quantities. For the longer runs screen print becomes economically more attractive.

There are number of areas where silk screen printing is virtually irreplaceable. The nature of the process lends itself perfectly towards printing on substrates that other types of print are unable to. Screen printed images can be applied to plastic based materials. Examples of these are polypropylene, fluted polypropylene, flexible and rigid pvc?s and compacted foam filled boards. Also silk screen print can be applied to wood, fabrics and paper. It is this ability to print on more diverse substrates that gives screen print its uniqueness.

The other significant unique aspect of screen print is the vibrancy of colour that it produces. Screen inks are heavily pigmented, meaning that during the screen print process in relation to other print methods a larger deposit of ink is applied to the substrate it is going onto. For this reason screen printed products appear regularly as form of advertising in the retail sector. There are also products manufactured which require very fine screen printed detail such as electronic circuit boards.

These different alternative applications serve to illustrate the niche market screen print has become .No other form of printing is able to produce images on such a wide range of substrates. Indeed screen print is everywhere in many different forms ? from hanging boards in stores, signs , tax disc holders ? the list is almost endless. The motor industry takes many forms of screen printed items from the aforementioned tax disc holders to car header boards , number plates and windscreen stickers. The shorter runs may well be now a thing of the past (through the growth of the digital process) but for the usual larger quantities required commercially the demand is still there.

Screen print is not as susceptible to technological change as other print processes and many companies are still using machinery manufactured many decades ago. The role therefore of screen print in the U.K. print market is still significant and will continue to be so for a long time to come.

Let’s talk about hot rolling.

We should begin be defining four important terms:

- Hot rolling
- Cold rolling
- Induction bending
- Induction coils

HOT ROLLING: Hot rolling is the process of heating a large tract of steel (rarely any other type of metal) and using weighted rollers to shape the metal, typically to make it thinner. The heat is fairly substantial, between 800 and 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit. The rollers are calibrated to place just the right amount of pressure on the steel to meet the thickness and other specifications of the client.

COLD ROLLING: Cold rolling differs from hot rolling, primarily because it doesn’t use heat. Yes, that is obvious. But the heat is needed for bulkier and less-finished material. Cold rolling would more typically be used on sheet metal, steel rods, bars and the like. Cold rolling’s main advantage is that the metal retains its strength more than hot rolling does.

INDUCTION BENDING: Induction bending is a totally different process with a totally different purpose. It is used to bend almost any metal, but typically pipe and tube forms. It is a highly energy-efficient process, because only a small section needs to be heated - just the section that requires a bend. So a long pipe that would typically remain straight, such as a petroleum or natural gas pipelinet, needs to be heated only at those select points that require a bend.

INDUCTION COILS: These are coils used to heat through a process called “induction”. Really they are transformers that convert DC power into very high heat. It consists of two insulated copper wires coiled around an iron core. A vibrating interrupter creates a faster pulse from the low-voltage DC power, creating a higher voltage pulse for more heat. Induction coils are used to heat the tubes and pipes in induction bending.

So the processes are quite different and so are the goals. However, there can be overlap and there are times when a decision must be made between induction bending, hot rolling and cold rolling.

Here are six advantages of induction bending over hot or cold rolling, reasons why a metal rolling company would prefer induction bending over other methods when it is appropriate for the job:

A) Induction bending creates minimal distortion in the tube or pipe, because only a small section of the metal tube or pipe is heated. The rest of the pipe remains untouched and unaffected.

B) Induction bending is more energy-efficient than hot rolling (although not more than cold rolling) because only a small section of the metal tube requires heat. This saves on costs and is better for the environment,

C) Induction bending does not require any sand filling or internal mandrels. This greatly reduces overhead costs of operations (less equipment!).

D) Induction bending is relatively quick, consuming less time, which also keeps labour costs down significantly.

E) Induction bending tends to deliver a higher quality product than cold bending does. Often cold bending can lead to excessive warping and wall thinning. It is important for the steel bending company to know the limits and capabilities of its machines and of the processes involved in each method of bending metal.

F) Induction bending eliminates the need for mechanical or welded joints. What this means for the finished product is that it sports a smoother finish.

It should be noted that these methods of bending and forming metal are not mutually exclusive. For instance, hot rolled steel often ends up as coiled sheet metal. This sheet metal ifs often then fed through the cold rolling steel process, where it becomes thinner sheet metal, metal foil and metal plates.

So it is not always just a choice between induction bending, hot rolling and cold rolling that needs to be made. Sometimes it is a decision of just exactly how to best combine two of the methods for the highest quality result, meeting the specifications of the client while minimizing possible weaknesses and imperfection, all the while keeping costs as low as possible. This is not a simple task.
