MPV or multi purpose vehicles are a type of car that has the capacity of a larger people carrier with the functionality of a hatchback. Lots of people see MPVs as just being suited to large families and instead go for a more compact car like the Ford Fiesta & Toyota Yaris.

A compact MPV is a further classification within the multi purpose vehicle category. The first car that was classified in this category was the Renault Scenic.
