Continuum of Care Director Jervis Jackson said two families are chosen to each receive six months free rent on a two-bedroom apartment at Motif Manor, assistance with utilities, furniture, groceries and educational and vocational assistance. Jackson asks the public every year around September to nominate families who need help, by calling Meadowbrook Villa Apartments and Motif Manor at (580) 248-1800. Jervis says that his organization is looking for families who are willing to work hard in order to be self-sufficient after the six months are over. The two families that are chosen must be able to pass the normal criminal background check required to live at Motif Manor, and the adults will be required to participate in a family self-sufficiency program through the Continuum of Care. “We do a wraparound of services,” Jackson said. Representatives from the Continuum will sit down with the family members and develop goals and a long-term plan. Then the Continuum will help the families find whatever assistance they need to achieve their goals. In the past, the families have become self-sufficient after the six month program. “With each of them, that six months provided a bridge to the next thing for them.”
