Every year, two Lawton, Oklahoma families get a helping hand for the hoildays - and their benefactors ask for the public’s help to find them. The Continuum of Care, a Housing and Urban Development program, and Professional Property Management and Consultants, LLC (http://meadowbrookvilla.com), look for two Lawton, Oklahoma families who deserve a new start.

Continuum of Care Director Jervis Jackson said two families are chosen to each receive six months free rent on a two-bedroom apartment at Motif Manor, assistance with utilities, furniture, groceries and educational and vocational assistance. Jackson asks the public every year around September to nominate families who need help, by calling Meadowbrook Villa Apartments and Motif Manor at (580) 248-1800. They can also go to the website at http://meadowbrookvilla.com.

Jervis says that his organization is looking for families who are willing to work hard in order to be self-sufficient after the six months are over. The two families that are chosen must be able to pass the normal criminal background check required to live at Motif Manor, and the adults will be required to participate in a family self-sufficiency program through the Continuum of Care. “We do a wraparound of services,” Jackson said. Representatives from the Continuum will sit down with the family members and develop goals and a long-term plan. Then the Continuum will help the families find whatever assistance they need to achieve their goals. In the past, the families have become self-sufficient after the six month program. “With each of them, that six months provided a bridge to the next thing for them.”

For those families who need an apartment sooner, Meadowbrook Villa Apartments has short-term rental rates and a $99 move-in special listed on their website under “Move-In Specials” at http://meadowbrookvilla.com.

In 2008, two struggling Lawton families received a fresh start and homes of their own. These were life-changing gifts. Both apartments also came with a Christmas tree and presents for each family member. One apartment went to Michael and Faatasiga Shepherd, both 19, and their 5-month-old daughter, Emily Shepherd. The Shepher family had faced employment and medical issues. They had been previously living with family members.

Lawton Oklahoma apartments are in high demand these days since the military brought so many new soldiers to Fort Sill. This giveaway was a blessing to these two families, and it happens every year in the Lawton Oklahoma area. There are many worthy families in the Lawton Oklahoma area, and as much as this program can continue to help others, it will. There is no doubt that this program will continue and be successful in the future.
